PHS staff to present complex case study at national conference |
|
St. Paul, Minn., – One of the most complex patients served by Pediatric Home Service (PHS) of Minneapolis is the focus of a case study that has been accepted for presentation at The 22nd Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC). PHS dietitian Janelle Peterson, RD, LD, CNSD, and pharmacist Steve LaFond, Pharm. D., will present “TPN-dependent Hispanic infant with Cystic Fibrosis and Short Bowel Syndrome,” at the conference, which will be held Orlando, Fla., Oct. 23-25, 2008. The child featured in the study has been diagnosed with both cystic fibrosis and short bowel syndrome — a rare combination — making it an extremely complex case that utilizes many of the services offered by PHS, an organization that provides specialized health care service to technology-supported children in their homes. A 20-month-old Hispanic child, she is also unusual because there is a low incidence of cystic fibrosis among the Hispanic population. Despite many complex health challenges, she is doing well, at home, with her family. The NACFC is a medical/scientific forum designed for attendance exclusively by health care professionals and research scientists, some of whom have cystic fibrosis. This is the first year the NACFC has accepted abstracts. Pediatric Home Service, based in St. Paul Minn., is an independent pediatric home health care company committed to taking care of the child by providing specialized health care services to technology-supported children in their home. In business since 1990, PHS has partnered with healthcare professionals and family caregivers to deliver care to children with special medical needs.
