ST. PAUL, Minn. (June 15, 2009) – Pediatric Home Service (PHS) has again earned the Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction in Disease-Specific Care for its Pediatric Asthma Program. Joint Commission surveyors evaluated PHS’ Pediatric Asthma Program to assess its compliance with national standards and performance measurement expectations for the management of chronic care illnesses. Standards compliance evaluation includes program and performance management, safe patient care, clinical information management, supporting patient self management and delivering clinical care. The PHS Pediatric Asthma Program is the only U.S. program independent of a hospital or health care organization with this Joint Commission certification. This is the fourth consecutive designation awarded to PHS’ asthma program since 2003. PHS was first accredited in 1994 and has participated in five Joint Commission surveys; PHS is now in its 15th year of consecutive Joint Commission accreditation. PHS asthma service is provided by Registered Perinatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioners who are also Certified Asthma Educators. “We voluntarily pursue this comprehensive, independent evaluation because it’s another step in enhancing our care,” explains Susan Wingert, CEO of PHS. “Our staff members work closely to provide quality care to our patients and families. Earning this Certificate also exemplifies our teamwork, and we all share pride in our accredited organization.” About the Joint Commission About PHS
