In-House Infusion Pharmacy Grows As It Serves More Patients
With the number of children with medical complexities in Minnesota increasing significantly over the past 10 years, PHS is consistently expanding its infusion pharmacy to continue meeting the needs of our patient population.
Improving Efficiencies
Efficiencies in work flow, visibility and utilization of space, and improved communication will be just a few of the benefits the most recent expansion brought.
“Home care is playing a larger role in providing for children with medical complexities,” says Jill Liebers, Pharmacy Manager at PHS. “Thanks to our increased pharmacy capabilities and a rise in infusion therapies that can be delivered at home, we will continue to serve this growing patient population at the highest level possible.”
One of a Kind
PHS is the only home care nursing agency in Minnesota with an on-site infusion pharmacy. This means our patients receive more expansive care, and families can turn to us for more of their child’s needs. It also means our clinicians are all working in one system and in constant contact regarding patient statuses, ensuring care plans are constantly up to date.
The PHS pharmacy provides infusion medication for homecare use including:

Intravenous (IV) and Subcutaneous (SC) Immunoglobulin – treatment given through a vein (IVIG) or under the skin (SCIG) to improve immune system functionality.- Home Parenteral Nutrition – treatment to provide nutrition through a catheter in a vein
- Antibiotic Therapy – treatment to eliminate infection
- Enzyme Replacement Therapy – medicine to replace or supplement enzymes
Bringing a Focus to Outcomes
Staff will also be able to focus even more closely on improved patient health and dispensed medication savings thanks to an additional pharmacist recently hired. Through findings in these outcomes, PHS pharmacists will be able to better assist health care providers in determining the best course of treatment and ensure the highest level of care for each of our patients.
