Using the most current Infusion Nursing Society (INS) Standards of Practice, we will review common infusion therapy topics, such as; basic venous anatomy, identification of the different central venous catheters, their indications for use and care of each; common IV therapies, methods of delivery, and complications and troubleshooting venous catheters. Hands-on time will be available to practice venous catheter dressing changes.

Objectives: Following the presentation the participant will be able to;
1. Discuss the principles of Infection Prevention, including hand washing, the appropriate use of PPE, and the 123 Infection Free! program.
2. Identify vasculature used for peripheral venous access catheter placement and the appropriate use of peripheral IV or midline.
3. Identify the different centrally placed venous catheters, including PICC, Tunneled Catheter, Non-tunneled Catheter, and Implanted Port, Valved and Non-valved catheters.
4. Perform an assessment of a centrally placed IV catheter.
5. Identify complications and troubleshooting strategies related to peripherally and centrally placed catheters.
6. Identify common intravenous therapies, indications for therapy, methods of delivery and infusion equipment.
7. Demonstrate a dressing change on a central venous catheter.
