Trach Tube Essentials (3hrs)

Learn how to safely and properly care for patients with a tracheotomy tube. Topics include: routine and emergency trach tube changes, routine trach ties and stoma care, different trach tube types (infant, pediatric, and adult, cuffed, uncuffed, double and single cannula), safety and infection control, speaking valves, heat-moisture exchangers and other trach tube accessories. Each participant will actively participate in a trach tube change.

Prerequisite: EACH participant must have taken the Auxiliary Home Care Equipment class.

·     Contact hours will be awarded to all participants

·     Special large group class arrangements on request

Objectives; Following the presentation, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify the basic parts of a tracheostomy tube.

2. Demonstrate how to properly and safely change a tracheostomy tube.

3. Explain the safety concerns with speaking valves.

4. Difine an demonstrate the acronym; "B.I.B.S."
