Pediatric Home Service Names Winners of Respiratory Therapy Scholarship

St. Paul, Minn. – Pediatric Home Service is proud to announce the recipients of its second annual Respiratory Therapy Scholarship.

The scholarship is for students who currently attend, or have recently graduated from, a respiratory therapy school. This type of education focuses on caring for people with heart and lung disorders, which is one of Pediatric Home Service’s primary focuses. The pediatric homecare company received 12 applications and awarded three winners with scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000.

A review committee of Pediatric Home Service respiratory therapists and supervisors selected candidates based on a variety of criteria, including transcripts, letters of recommendation, and essays describing why they chose a career in respiratory therapy.

“We received applications from an outstanding group of respiratory therapy students this year,” said Derek Hustvet, Pediatric Home Service director of respiratory therapy. “Pediatric Home Service is dedicated to promoting education and hiring exceptional respiratory therapists, so we’re happy to support those who may play a role in caring for our patients in the future.”

Pediatric Home Service awarded $500 scholarships to Melissa Weiman, a student at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn., and Mohamud Mohamed, a student at University of Minnesota Rochester/Mayo School of Health Sciences. The grand prize scholarship of $1,000 was awarded to Xe Yang, who will graduate in May 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in respiratory care from St. Catherine’s University.

“With today’s improved technology, I hope to one day be part of a service that helps children become active and live freely while maintaining a healthy well-being with their condition,” said Yang.
