Pediatric Home Service’s Asthma Program Earns Fifth Consecutive Joint Commission Certificate of Distinction

St. Paul, Minn.Pediatric Home Service (PHS) has again earned the Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction in Disease-Specific Care for its Pediatric Asthma Program.

Joint Commission surveyors evaluated PHS’s Pediatric Asthma Program to assess its compliance with national standards and performance measurement expectations for the management of chronic care illnesses. Standards compliance evaluation includes program and performance management, safe patient care, clinical information management, supporting patient self management and delivering clinical care.

The PHS Pediatric Asthma Program is the only U.S. program independent of a hospital or health care organization with this Joint Commission certification. This is the fifth consecutive designation awarded to PHS’ asthma program since 2003.

The PHS Asthma Program was first accredited in 1994 and has since participated in six Joint Commission surveys; this is in addition to eighteen consecutive years of accreditation and Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for demonstrating compliance with Joint Commission national standards for homecare organizations. PHS is now in its 17th year of consecutive Joint Commission accreditation. PHS asthma service is provided by Registered Perinatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioners who are also Certified Asthma Educators.

“I’m proud of the PHS team for the work they do to earn this distinction. This is a voluntary, independent evaluation that we eagerly pursue because it’s another step to ensure we’re delivering the best care possible,” explains Mark Hamman, President of PHS. “We work hard to ensure our young patients thrive in the home. “
