A Message from Nita, Sam, and Jessica:

We are in an exciting time as Cherub Medical Supply becomes part of the PHS team. When we were first approached by PHS and saw the opportunity to combine our top-notch reputations in pediatric home care and bring our patients the comprehensive services offered by PHS, we knew we had to dig in. 

Thank you for all the amazing work you do for our Cherub families, and for your continued effort as we work together to care for the nation’s most precious patients. 

You are what makes this organization successful. That does not change with this partnership.  You are the lifeblood of the organization, you are the reason patients are safe, happy, and healthy. 

Looking to bring a partner in to support the expansion of our services and geographic growth was not a decision made lightly. We knew our success would begin in choosing the right company to join. In PHS, I see a similar heart and dedication to the patient families and an unwavering commitment to doing what is right, not what is easiest.

We are excited to see all we will accomplish together. Everyone will be working hard to ensure clear communication as we integrate our two organizations into one. Please use this page as a resource for you to get answers to common questions and submit questions that you do not see listed here.

Welcome to the PHS team! We are so glad to be working with you and are looking forward to getting to know you. 

Our priority throughout this integration will be to limit disruptions to you and to our patients. We will work efficiently to bring our teams together and bring the best care to every child who needs us, all while having fun and working hard. While we aim to set up an infrastructure that allows for consistent processes, workflows, and future growth, we will keep the structure of your organization in place as it exists today, to start. Back to our goal of as little disruption as possible, changes will be paced to allow your team to continue the phenomenal work you do today of taking care of our patients, additions to the team will be aligned with future growth plans in the coming months!   

We were attracted to Cherub for the similarities in values and patient-first mentality. We look forward to great conversations as we discover more about each of you and your organization’s processes.

Getting to Know PHS

External Communication

We’re sharing this exciting news with staff immediately, and will be quickly moving on to external communications with referral sources [starting 7/5/2022] and then patient families [starting 7/11/2022].  We will keep staff informed as we continue to advance the communication efforts.

The press release will be sent to media contacts after we have fully communicated with referrals and patient families. As of now, we are planning to distribute the press release on 7/14/2022.

Cherub Medical Supply will be transitioning immediately to the Pediatric Home Service name and brand. We will continue to work with our customers to support this transition and create awareness for PHS throughout the states of Kansas and Missouri.  

Cherub Medical Supply’s website will have a popup added to it on 7/14/2022 that will redirect visitors to the PHS website. The Facebook page will have a post announcing the transition to PHS and the logo will be changed on 7/14/2022. We will begin the process of merging the page with the PHS page. This can take several weeks to months.

How will my job change? -

This is a big transition, but everyone at PHS is excited and honored to be walking this path with the team at Cherub. Having gone through an acquisition ourselves, we are sensitive to how change feels.

While there will undoubtedly be change (processes, technology, additional services) in the early days of our partnership you can anticipate business as usual in your day-to-day work. We love the work you do and look forward to collaborating on our future together.

You are what makes Cherub so successful. PHS leadership recognizes that and values your patient-centric mentality.

In the future, we will grow our staff at Cherub to align with our organizational growth.

What new opportunities might I have? -

We fully expect new opportunities as both organizations plan for growth and a new future. Right now, the exact details are still being developed, but your leaders will be a good resource to talk about your ideas of what that could mean for you and your department.

How will my workload and stress level change? -

We know that for some, change brings excitement and energy, for others, it may bring some stress. As integration flows, certain functions and roles may be more affected than others. We want to be open and honest about each other’s capacity. Be sure to stay in communication with your manager about your workload and your interest in being involved in new initiatives.

Will I get the same pay and benefits? -

The long-term goal is to simplify and improve pay and benefits where it is possible for PHS and all partner companies.

Your pay and benefits will continue to come from Cherub through the end of 2022.
Your 401K will transition to Empower and employees will have the option of how they want to invest the funds currently in their 401Ks. More details about this process will come quickly. See the section on 401K below for more details.

Our goal is to offer pay that is competitive in the marketplace and that matches the passion of the employee for their role. We will work to ensure parity for employees and will be sure to communicate before, during, and after any changes.

Will my PTO change? -

For now, your PTO will stay as-is. In the coming months, we will compare PTO benefit plans and work to transition staff to the PHS PTO policy at the same time as benefits transition in 2023.

Will our dress code change? -

Maintaining your business casual environment remains an important element to ensure all team members are prepared should you need to step in to support other team members and find yourself interacting with patient families and referrals.

How will this change our company culture? -

One of the main reasons PHS pursued Cherub was how closely our heritage mirrored each other and even more important that our patient-centric heart was the same.

You can certainly expect changes such as new training, technology systems, and process changes to ensure our teams can work together in a seamless fashion, but you can also rest assured that changes won’t all be introduced at once. We will do our best to ensure the pace of change is appropriate. Cherub leadership will be intimately involved in the timeline and rollout of any changes that impact staff.

Additionally, our future plans will continue to include growth as a primary objective. So you can expect to hear about adding new locations across the US as we continue on our mission to bring more care to more kids.

Will we still have the same company wide events as we have had in the past? -

Having fun is an important part of who we are and is actually one of our Guiding Principles. We do formal and informal events throughout the year. We are committed to fostering a healthy culture and understand the value of making time for employees to connect. While COVID impacted our events schedule, we are now on a quarterly company-wide event calendar and look forward to bringing you into these events.

PHS identifies a culture champion at each of our branch offices to support the implementation on a local level and make any unique customizations to ensure events function for all staff regardless of the branch office you call home. One key component has been working to find innovative ways to connect with a hybrid workforce.

Will I have to move to a new location? -

No. Your office is great for the current organizational needs.


Will this change the organization's mission? -

We are thrilled to bring Cherub Medical Supply directly into the PHS brand. This includes our name, our visual identity as well as our mission, guiding principles, and strategic intent. More training and background will be provided to staff to help you build familiarity.

Knowing the goal of any partnership with PHS is to find like-minded organizations, we are certain our mission and culture will resonate with you.

Will this improve our service to patient families? -

You will still be offering the same great service that you have always focused on providing. We are hoping our partnership will only complement the great work you already do. Down the road, as we learn together and when it’s the right time, we will add new lines of services, bring enhanced technologies and provide our patients with custom education materials.

Following integration, our goal is to continue to expand services so instead of going to multiple providers, families will be able to get all their services from one location.

What benefits will our referral sources experience? -

PHS fully appreciates the strong relationships Cherub Medical Supply has established with its referral sources. It is obvious your referral sources have grown to value your expertise, accessibility, and responsiveness. We have no intention of disrupting those relationships.

Working with you, we will explore together some of the synergies that may further improve the patient experience. Some of the additional services we can bring alongside the ones you already provide will broaden your platform of care. Some of the additional support we may be able to provide should help many concentrate their focus on care for their patients and what they are really good at. And, some of the new systems and technology should make jobs easier, create efficiencies and increase quality and accuracy.

How will leadership change? -

With this partnership, Nita will be stepping away from the organization and beginning her long-deserved retirement.

Sam will transition into a role as Branch Manager, he will report to John Reed, PHS VP of Operations of OH, KY, and KS. . Sam will also be serving as the outreach role to connect and partner with the referral sources as we grow our reach. He will work closely on these efforts with Donna Filar, the PHS EVP of Market Outreach.

Jessica will continue to play as a jack of all trades but will focus on her role as Patient Accounts Manager. Reporting to John Reed, PHS VP of Operations of OH, KY, and KS.

Will our company name change? -

We will take the opportunity of the partnership announcement to transition immediately over to the PHS brand.

Will decisions be made differently now? -

Of course, with any transaction like this, there will be some changes. Some of the changes will evolve over time, some haven’t even been identified yet and won’t be until we encounter situations that may require a new approach. Initially, it may feel a little different with the PHS senior leadership and board of directors coming alongside Sam and Jessica to make higher-level decisions. You will also likely see some differences in a very disciplined strategic planning process.

Will the organizational structure change in any way? -

Cherub has already proven to be successful with its current structure. We don’t anticipate significant changes other than those mentioned above. Sam will transition into a role as Branch Manager, he will report to John Reed.

Jessica will continue to play as a jack of all trades but will focus on her role as Patient Accounts Manager, also reporting to John Reed.

However, as both organizations grow there may be some natural and common-sense changes that we will work together to accomplish.

What are some examples of the new resources that will be available to Cherub? -

One of the advantages of any partnership is learning best practices from each other and sharing resources. We anticipate a lot of cross-pollination between each organization. We are greatly looking forward to a future that has all locations using the same systems.

Will our company goals and budget be affected? -

PHS will be looking at current goals and aligning them against the growth goals we have in place across the country. PHS will be working alongside management and the Board of Directors to make any modifications to existing goals.

What processes will change? -

While we don’t know about all the changes coming our way, as always, we will be working to become more efficient and more effective. Getting into a unified EHR system and unified processes is one example of where we will focus time.

Will our organization hours change? -

No. At this time we will maintain our current hours of 9am – 5pm.

Who is PHS (company and people)?  

PHS is an independent children’s home health care company. We are here for one reason: helping kids with medical complexities live their best life – at home, with their families, where they belong. We provide respiratory therapy, equipment and supplies, infusion therapy and pharmacy, enteral nutrition, home care nursing, skilled nursing visits, and clinical education.

What is the goal of Cherub for PHS? -

PHS is eager to learn more about the staff and become one unified team. This will involve transition and transformation for both organizations. While it promises an exciting future, there is no denying there will be some challenges along the way. Our goal is to navigate the changes with as little disruption as possible and make it a positive experience for everyone. We are also excited to continue to grow in each location where the company expands; both geographically and in the services we provide.

401K Transition

Why are we transitioning the 401K plan when no other benefits will be changing, yet? -

Since we are halfway through the year transitioning medical benefits would have caused an undue burden to the team, but transitioning to the PHS 401K allows us to eliminate any waiting period for new staff, and take our first step towards integrating our organizations.

What options do I have for my existing 401K funds? -

Nyhart will mail out a packet to all participants with a balance. You have several options for how you will use your existing 401K funds.

1. Transfer the balance to your new Empower account. The funds will be invested based on your elections. Empower will help you with this transition.
2. Deposit the funds into a separate ROTH account you already have in place or plan to start. Axcet has a resource who can help with this transition option.
3. Take a disbursement- please note, if you select this option, you have will penalties against these dollars.
4. Leave your funds in the current account. A fee will be assessed to maintain funds in this account.

When can I sign up for my Empower account?  

Starting Monday, 7/11 you will be able to access the Empower website to create your account and select your contribution percent. Click the question text to view the resource guide.
