Our Pharmacy Manager Discusses Enzyme Replacement Therapy

When an individual has a condition that leads to a deficiency or total absence of an enzyme being produced in the body, they need enzyme replacement therapy to supplement what they’re missing and reduce organ damage. Often, this deficiency is discovered early in the child’s life as they present symptoms consistent with enzyme diagnoses. As soon as a diagnosis is received, starting this weekly infusion is imperative for the child’s prognosis.

But what exactly is this therapy, and how does a patient benefit from receiving this lifelong infusion at home? We sat down with our Pharmacy Manager Jill Liebers, Pharm. D, to learn more.
