Pediatric Home Service Expands Infusion Pharmacy
Only pharmacy of its kind in Minnesota, streamlines infusion care
St. Paul, Minn. — The only private duty nursing agency with an on-site infusion pharmacy in Minnesota,Pediatric Home Service (PHS) is pleased to announce the expansion of its infusion pharmacy. To accommodate a larger and increasingly complex patient population, the expansion provides efficiencies in work flow, visibility and utilization of space, and improved communication among staff. Infusion therapy orders have been on the rise over the past six years, bringing to light the need for a larger, more inclusive pharmacy space.
“Over the past 10 years the number of medically-complex pediatric patients in Minnesota has significantly increased and we needed to expand our pharmacy space to meet these demands,” said PHS Pharmacy Manager, Jill Liebers. “Thanks to our additional capabilities and a rise in infusion therapies that can be delivered in home, we’re able to continue providing this unique service to a growing patient population at the highest level of care.”
Streamlining patient care through its on-site infusion pharmacy, PHS provides infusion medications for homecare use including:
- Intravenous (IV) and Subcutaneous (SC) Immunoglobulin – treatment given through a vein
(IVIG) or under the skin (SCIG) to improve immune system functionality - Total Parenteral Nutrition – treatment to provide nutrition through a catheter in a vein
- Antibiotic Therapy – treatment to eliminate infection
- Intravenous Enzyme Replacement Therapy – medicine to replace or supplement enzymes
An additional pharmacist was added through the expansion, allowing staff to focus more closely on improved patient health and dispensed medication savings. Through their findings of these outcomes, pharmacists can better assist health care providers in determining the best course of treatment to ensure the highest level of care.
