PHS Offers Healthcare Partners Secure E-mail Communication

St. Paul, Minn. —As online correspondence becomes increasingly prevalent, so do concerns over the security of information — concerns that have the potential to limit the way clinicians, physicians, caregivers, and patients communicate. To alleviate those concerns, and to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, Pediatric Home Service (PHS) has announced the installation of ZixCorp’s encryption software.

ZixCorp’s software makes secure email communications easy and ensures that all PHS initiated e-mails containing protected health information remain confidential. When someone from PHS sends a secure message, recipients are directed to a separate website to “retrieve” their message. Recipients then go through a few simple steps to access messages and can also respond securely to e-mail messages, free of charge.

Recipients who are already ZixCorp customers will receive secure messages directly in their e-mail inbox.

Using the ZixCorp’s system for securing messages allows both the sender and the recipient to feel confident that the information being transmitted won’t be intercepted by outside hackers. “Maintaining the privacy of our patients is just one of the many steps PHS has taken to make patient safety a top priority,” said Cameo Zehnder, Managing Director of Regulatory Affairs.
