Know the Nurses: Megan Connoy

If you have a private duty nurse in your home, you already know what an important part of your life they become. Today in Know the Nurses, we’re introducing you to one of our private duty nurses, Megan Connoy, RN, BSN, who has been with PHS since April 2012. We already know these nurses provide comprehensive, round-the-clock care for patients in their homes every day, but here are a few fun facts about Megan you might not know.

  • IMG_0829I’m from Anoka, MN (the REAL A-town) and have lived in MN my whole life.
  • I went to nursing school at Minnesota State University, Mankato and have my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
  • I have a dog named Mikka!  She’s 1.5 years old and loves kids.  She has also visited the PHS office where she enjoyed meeting everybody and getting all sorts of attention!
  • I am a big hockey fan!  It’s my favorite sport and I love going to MN Wild games.
  • IMG_1103I also named my dog after a hockey player.  Notice in the previous fact… Mikka… she is named after Wild captain Mikko Koivu!
  • I was also a big choir/theater girl when I was in high school.  I still sing every now and then, and I have been known to sing to my PHS patients (which they seem to like).
  • I have a boyfriend named Mark who I’ve dated for 9 years.  He also loves hockey and (surprise, surprise) plays hockey himself.  I like hockey.
  • IMG_1326I have been an RN for almost 2 years.
  • I recently became an Aunt (my only brother had his first child); and I am mildly obsessed with my nephew.  Just look at him though, how could I not be?!
  • My favorite part of working with these kiddos is getting to see them make strides and thrive.  It is amazing to see how far these kids come, especially considering how some of them start.
  • I have a problem with binge watching TV series on Netflix.  I can rock out an entire season in one day!_T6K0955_FC
  • I decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was 12.  I had to have a spinal tap and a nurse covered up my “bottom half” for the procedure when I was too weak to do it and was clearly embarrassed of my preteen bod.  I thought it was the nicest thing ever because I was very young and scared and that nurse helped me. I decided I would help kids like that someday. (Megan works with PHS patient Shelby in the photo on the right)
  • I love working with kids!  They are so much fun and I get to have a great time playing every day at work!IMG_0430
  • I am a HUGE Harry Potter nerd!!  I have read all books multiple times, own all movies and even been to “Harry Potter World” (as I like to call it) at Universal in Orlando, FL.
  • I tend to dress kind of like a hippie when I’m not in scrubs.  I am not one to hesitate tying headbands around my head and wearing long boho dresses.
