PHS’ Asthma Program Earns Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction

PHS is proud to announce that we have earned The Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction in Disease‐Specific Care for our Pediatric Asthma Program. The PHS Pediatric Asthma Program is the only U.S. program independent of a hospital or health care organization with this Joint Commission certification. This is the fifth consecutive designation awarded to PHS’ asthma program since 2003. All of PHS asthma services are provided by Registered Perinatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioners who are also Certified Asthma Educators.

Joint Commission surveyors evaluated PHS’ Pediatric Asthma Program to assess our compliance with national standards and performance measurement expectations for the management of chronic care illnesses. Standards compliance evaluation includes: program and performance management, safe patient care, clinical information management, supporting patient self management and delivering clinical care.

In addition to our Disease-Specific Certification PHS has also earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for the past 16 years. PHS was first accredited in 1994 and has participated in six Joint Commission surveys.

“We voluntarily pursue this comprehensive, independent evaluation because it’s another step in enhancing our care,” explains Susan Wingert, CEO of PHS. “Our staff members work closely to provide quality care to our patients and families. Earning this Certificate also exemplifies our teamwork, and we all share pride in our accredited organization.”

You can read more about the Disease-Specific Certification as well as the Gold Seal of Approval on the Joint Commission website here.

The surveyor had many great things to say about PHS and the way we manage the care for our patients, here are several comments we received.

  • “PHS’s medical record system is very thorough.  It’s a great system!”
  • “The home visits really showed the strength of [PHS’s] education.”
  • “It’s obvious that PHS is very culturally sensitive.”
  • Commented that PHS University is the most organized system he has ever seen for tracking competencies.

Thank you to our wonderful patients who welcome us into your homes daily to care for your children and thank you to the employees who make PHS such a wonderful company. It’s very clear that every department is integral to the success of PHS as a whole.
