Today is National Health Unit Coordinator Day, and at PHS, this group of 6 keeps the clinical departments moving and organized. You could almost consider this group the kidney of PHS; filtering the orders and deliveries, repairs and set ups that come through – essentially acting as a regulating body to keep clinical processes running smoothly. Here are just a few of the tasks they do on a daily basis:

    • Sort delivery tickets for equipment and supplies
    • Enter and follow up on lab orders
    • Arrange pick-ups and exchanges for equipment
    • Food pump set up scheduling
    • Same day delivery coordination

Without the HUCs arranging so much behind the scenes, we wouldn’t be able to run as smoothly and efficiently on a daily basis to continually provide the best care for each patient. So the next time you receive a delivery, exchange a piece of equipment, or have a lab draw done, thank a HUC – they were an integral part of the team.
